Who would've supposed that some noises would eventually become so extinct that your kids or grandkids may have only heard them in old movies? Go ahead and tell us how old you are by letting us know which of these sounds you remember from your past! ;)

1. Rotary dial phone. It may now be available as an application on iPhones, but in the past that was probably the most commonplace sound in any home. Swoooosh! Click-click-click...

2. The manual typewriter had a whole set of sounds that were unique to it. Like the loud clacking of the keys, the clunk when you lift the carriage, and the ping of the bell when you've reached the end of the line.

3. The old-school coffee percolator with its steamy "bloop-hisssss!"

4. Any social gathering in the 60s had that rapid-fire "clack-clack" of a camera equipped with a flash cube. It allowed to snap four or more photos in rapid succession! Can you imagine that wonder of technology!

5. The famous TV channel selector knobs used to make that "clunk-clunk" sound, changing between the two or three channels that were being broadcast in your region, amidst a lot of static noise and "snow" coming from the blank stations.

6. Record changers like this one allowed to stack a selection of albums for a very long-term listening pleasure. The soft "slap!" sound was followed by a series of clicks and then of course... scritch!

7. TV station sign-off. Before the era of the 24-hour "news" cycle and the endless infomercials, TV stations actually went off air for a few hours every night. Some TV-holics experienced real physical withdrawal symptoms whenever they heard the famous "We now conclude our broadcast day", followed by the steady "beeeeeeeep" tone of the test pattern.

8. These chunka-chunka push buttons of the cash register were awfully clumsy, but experienced cashiers could check you out just as fast as their modern counterparts with the scanners.

9. The rapid "tick-tick-tick" of the film projector used to fascinate audiences around the world. It was usually accompanied by shouts like "Turn it up!" and, "Focus!"

10. "You sound like a broken record" was a phrase that also had a literal meaning, once upon a time. That was the sound of the needle getting stuck and playing the same few notes over and over. The only sound more embarrassing than that was the scratch of the needle across the vinyl.
