Knickers in a twist: Brazilian official goes mad over brides that bare all
It’s a good job that wedding dresses are so long, otherwise wedding guests in Brazil would be getting an eyeful. In Brazil, superstitious brides believe that walking up the aisle without their knickers will make their marriages last longer.
The pants problem has apparently gotten out of hand, as a Brazilian official now wants to introduce a law that will force brides to wear knickers at the altar.
The Irish Daily Star reports that councillor Oziaz Zizi claims more and more women in his town of Vila Velha are going up the aisle with absolutely nothing on underneath their wedding dresses.
Zizi says that the brides believe going knicker-less will help to secure their nuptials for longer.
“The person, in fact, can get married in whichever way they like, but the moment they enter a place of worship they must show some respect. And without knickers just won’t do,” he said.
The councillor believes that his new law, which would also put a limit on plunging necklines, would save priests from embarrassment as they preside over weddings in the town.
Even if the law was passed there’s just one small problem though:
“We couldn’t do any checks,” Zizi admits.
So a law that you basically couldn’t enforce. Useful. We say let the brides have their superstition. It isn’t hurting anyone and chances are it’ll make a few grooms fairly happy.
